Thermography

Our specialist thermal imaging services provide fast, non-invasive insight into the condition of your buildings and assets helping you detect problems early, make informed decisions, and improve performance.

Thermographic Surveys

● Whether you’re a homeowner looking to reduce energy bills or a business aiming to improve building efficiency, our thermal surveys provide the data you need for smarter upgrades.

● Our thermographic methods help locate roof leaks, underfloor heating faults, and concealed moisture — saving time and money on invasive investigations.

● Thermal reports are often used to support funding applications, insurance claims, housing stock upgrades, design and maintenance planning. From CIF bids in education to planned works in public sector and commercial estates, our inspections offer compelling visual evidence and practical guidance.

FAQ's

Common Frequently Asked Questions for Thermography Surveys

What is a thermal imaging survey?

A thermal imaging survey (also known as thermography) uses an infrared camera to detect temperature variations on surfaces. It reveals hidden issues such as heat loss, moisture ingress, air leakage, insulation defects, and electrical faults without needing to open up walls or ceilings.

Is the survey invasive or disruptive?

No. Thermal imaging is completely non-invasive. We don’t drill, open walls, or disturb the property. Surveys can usually be completed with minimal disruption and often within a few hours.

When is the best time to carry out a thermal survey?

Thermal imaging works best when there is a good temperature difference (minimum 10°C or more) between the inside and outside of the building. This typically means surveys are carried out early in the morning, late evening, or during colder months.

Will I receive a report?

Yes. You’ll receive a comprehensive report including thermal images, standard photographs, analysis, and clear recommendations. Reports can be tailored for homeowners, facility managers, insurers, or BREEAM assessors.

Can thermal surveys help reduce energy bills?

Absolutely. By identifying areas of heat loss, poor insulation, or draughts, thermal surveys provide clear guidance on cost-effective improvements that can lead to substantial energy savings.

How much does a thermal survey cost?

Prices vary based on building size, type, and survey scope. We offer competitive rates for homeowners, housing providers, and commercial clients.

Can thermal surveys detect water leaks?

Yes. Thermal imaging can detect moisture hidden behind walls or ceilings, track roof leaks, and highlight areas of damp particularly when used shortly after rainfall or combined with moisture mapping techniques.

What types of properties benefit from thermal imaging?

We work with residential homes, schools, offices, commercial buildings, industrial units, and housing associations. Whether you're trying to save energy, find leaks, or validate construction quality, thermal surveys are suitable for almost any building.

What can a thermal camera detect?

● Heat loss through walls, roofs, windows and doors
● Cold bridging and air leakage
● Missing or poorly fitted insulation
● Roof and building fabric leaks
● Hidden damp and moisture
● Underfloor heating issues
● Overheating or failing electrical components (commercial only)

Do I need to prepare anything before the survey?

Yes, we may ask you to:

● Heat the building before the survey (for heat loss inspections)

● Ensure access to relevant rooms, loft spaces, or roof areas

● Remove furniture or coverings that block walls or vents

We’ll provide clear pre-survey instructions beforehand.

How accurate is thermal imaging?

When carried out by a qualified thermographer, thermal imaging is highly accurate and reliable. We follow industry standards including ISO 6781 and use high resolution cameras for all inspections.

Is thermal imaging required for BREEAM?

Thermographic surveys are a recognised requirement for BREEAM credits under Man 04 – Commissioning and Handover. To meet compliance, the survey must be conducted by a Level 2 certified thermographer and documented to standard.

Are your surveyors qualified?

Yes. All thermal imaging is carried out by Level 2 thermographers and RICS surveyors ensuring your results are accurate, compliant, and professionally reported.
